Review: Mockingjay

Mockingjay
Suzanne Collins
Copyright 2010, Scholastic

Well. This is it! And what a journey it's been! No, I'm not talking about Katniss and Peeta and Gail, I'm talking about US and readers!!

We submerge ourselves in the lives and times of these characters and lets face it, it's taxing! How many hours have I spent since picking up The Hunger Games wondering who Katniss would choose? Who would make it through all of the games alive? Did you escape unscathed? I didn't. I swear, had my cat not been on my lap as I was reading when Katniss started screaming at Buttercup - I would have lost it searching for her.

Mockingjay was probably my favorite of the books. I don't know if I can actually say that since so much of why I loved it was based on parts from the first two that really enhanced it or not, but all those little things came together and FINALLY a decision was made. It was awesome.

Gosh, I know almost everyone has already read them but I'm still so afraid that I'll be giving away a spoiler or ten if I say anything! But I don't want to say this is a review and not say anything. Oh the pressure. :)

Mockingjay takes everything you know about The Hunger Games and amplifies it, personifies it and dares Katniss to hold steady to any one belief. If you open page one and think "Oh I know where this is going" - you will be wrong. There are things that must be realized, they must happen in a particular sequence. You must cry at times and be brave at others. You have to hold out on love, allow it to consume you, destroy you. You have to open your eyes to everything around you and listen to every whisper in every corner.

I've heard a lot of people say they weren't all that pleased with the end and some of the particular choices that were made. People we love will die. But it had to happen, it was a necessary evil. It still sucked, yes, but I can totally see where Suzanne Collins was coming from. That and, well, my team won so HA. lol!

Anyway, I only started reading them so I could get in on the hype over the movie and BOY AM I GLAD I DID. Please, check your reservations at the door and come on in. We'll get your style team and arena ready!

  1. Oh man do I have some serious love for these books.
I totally agree with you about necessary evils having to happen. They made the story hit even closer to home, for me.
And high five for the winning team! ;D

  2. I'm so glad you loved this one! I thought it was VERY realistic and very raw. A lot of people were really upset by/disappointed in Katniss in this book, but I thought it was perfectly done. NO one can go through what she's been through & not be suffering some SERIOUS side effects.

    Great review!! :D
