Review: Icebreaker

Icebreaker
Deirdre Martin
Copyright 2011, Berkley Sensation

Sinead is an uptight lawyer, but she has to be because of the world she lives/works in. Living and working are kind of synonomous for her, seeing as she breathes the cases she handles with an iron fist.

Adam's whole life has revolved around hockey. Growing up in a small town in Canada it was known that you either escape with hockey or stay there forever. Adam isn't just good at it, he's a hard hitting menace hiding a super huge heart.

The two have great chemistry and are both pretty likeable, you really do want them together and Martin makes you feel as torn as they are. Especially seeing as they have such different styles. I don't think I related well to Sinead. She was SO completely self absorbed that it killed me. What about MY job? What if I look like a fool? And trust me when I tell you that I understand about working in a man's world: trying being the only female camera op on a sports TV crew. But when love comes knocking, I don't believe in a middle ground. You're either in or your out. No hiding. I guess I didn't feel Sinead so much because I associated so much more strongly with Adam.

Adam is kick.ass. He will beat the crap out of you and then explain to you why. Everything he does has a method and I love that about him. Even the way his temper flares and he goes all stubborn. Usually, I'd like to say that in a book I side with the female character and put myself in her shoes - but in Icebreaker I found myself completely sided with Adam. Not a bad thing! Just unusual for me!

Especially if you like hockey, you'll enjoy the hard hits and fast pace plays of Icebreaker. The writing is a little different from what I've read lately but that's part of the beauty of books! So many talented authors out there, all with their own unique voices!

Pick it up and give it a try, then find me on Twitter and let me know who you connected with so I don't feel so alone out here! lol!
